Stoneware jar, bowls and mugs.

Unrelated to pottery but there's a dog back there enjoying the snow

SHORT STORY TIME

40 years ago at a small camp in Maine I sat down in front of a large kickwheel and threw my first pot. It was a small bowl which could have served as a paper weight. Instead, I painted it with blue flowers and gave it to my mother. 'It's a sugar bowl', I said. I still have the piece and it brings back fond memories of a place and I time I loved.

Over the years I continued to learn at community art centers and wherever I could find access. When I lived in Brooklyn I shared a basement studio with another potter in an old Brownstone. It was damp and creepy and I'm still a bit shook by basements.

What was a hobby became a career.

In 2012 I founded Indigo Fire Studio in Belmont, MA. The next 5 years were a whirlwind of teaching and building a business. Those were good days. But exhausting! In 2018 I sold Indigo Fire to the current owner where it continues to thrive.

Currently, I am the Director of ArtSpace where I work to create more opportunities and access to the arts. On the weekends I get in my own studio at Western Ave. in Lowell, MA. The balance between work and creative time is perfect. I feel extremley fortunate.

My love for ceramics runs deep. I love the nature of clay and how it can be forgiving and repurposed. There are endless options of clay and glaze combos. At my core, I am an optimist.

My work is functional and meant to be used daily. You can purchase items here and in person during Open Studios. There are more choices in person.

I sell Block Print Textiles through my Etsy shop Suchi's Table

These days I live north of Boston with my amazing husband and two dogs, in a small town with cow pasteurs and woods. My two daughters are launching into the world and carving out remarkable lives. Even though I'm a self proclaimed 'city girl' I've come to love the quiet of the country and the personalities of each New England season. We try to get back to India every few years.
