SUCHI'S TABLE
In addition to my pottery, I sell a selection of Handmade Block Print Napkins and table linens. Visit my Etsy Shop to view the full collection. Click on Suchi's Table (above) to learn more.
40 years ago at a small camp in Maine I sat down in front of a large kickwheel and threw my first pot. It was a small bowl which could have served as a paper weight. Instead, I painted it with blue flowers and gave it to my mother. 'It's a sugar bowl', I said. This is my first memory of pottery.
Over the years I continued to learn at community art centers and wherever I could find access. When I lived in Brooklyn I shared a basement studio with another potter in an old Brownstone. It was then I realized that a) I don't like basements of old buildings and b) I must really like this hobby.
What was a hobby became a career.
In 2012 I founded Indigo Fire Studio in Belmont, MA.
In 2018 I sold Indigo Fire to the current owner where it continues to thrive.
Currently, I am the Director of ArtSpace where I work to create more opportunities and access to the arts. On the weekends I get in my own studio at Western Ave. in Lowell, MA.
My love for ceramics runs deep. I love the nature of clay and how it can be forgiving and repurposed. At my core, I am an optimist. What falls apart can be rebuilt or can teach you something.
Even after 40 years I am still figuring this out. Everything I make is functional and I consider form and use as each piece takes shape.
I sell my pieces along with Block Print Textiles through my Etsy shop Suchi's Table.
I live north of Boston in a small town with cow pasteurs and woods. Even though I'm a self proclaimed 'city girl' (lock the doors at the red light) I've come to love the quiet of the country.
